先君讳荐发,字荣父,姓吴氏,越新昌人。曾祖讳□,故迪功郎。祖讳□,故隐德勿耀。考讳□,故成忠郎,☑庆元府都作院,妣孺人石氏。先君绍熙甲寅(1194年)九月三十日生,习举子业,师事司业四明葛公逢,尤工于声律,嘉定癸未(1223年)入县学,参务本斋。丁酉(1237年)请监举,至壬寅(1242年)春,忽感疾,医药弗瘳,竟以淳祐癸卯(1243年)四月十一日,不及禄而卒。呜呼痛哉!先君享年五十。娶袁氏,象山令君即外□□。子男一人:榘。女一人:适古剡新任招信别驾幼子□士过钟。孙男一人,幼,未名。榘兹禀母命,谨以宝祐癸丑(1253年)十二月十六日庚申,忍死奉柩,归窆于仝邑仙桂乡白卯□山之原。先君生平行实,侍读中书吏部侍郎□公□已赐之铭,姑叙岁月纳诸圹云。孤子榘泣血谨识。

Lineage
Great-grandfather: Former Gentleman for Meritorious Achievement (character for his name missing)

Father: Former Loyalty Officer, Supervisor of the Qingyuan Armory (character for his name missing)
Mother: Lady Shi (Ruren)
Born on the 30th day of the 9th lunar month, 1194, my father studied classical examination taught by Ge Feng, Vice Director of the Imperial Academy, and excelled in poetic composition. He entered the county school in 1223 and studied at Wuben Zhai. In 1237, he was recommended as a candidate for official positions, but illness struck in spring 1242, and all remedies failed. He passed away on the 11th day of the 4th lunar month, 1243, aged 50, ere holding any office. Alas!

On the gengshen day, 12th month, 1253, I, Wu Ju, fulfilling my mother's command, buried my father on the plain at the foot of Baimao (character missing) Mountain, Xiangui Township.
As Vice Minister of Personnel Affairs (two characters missing) has composed my father’s formal epitaph, I wrote this record to go into the tomb. Inscribed by Wu Ju in tears of blood. Calligraphy by Wang Xinfu, Right Gentleman for Audience, newly appointed Vice Administrator of Yanzhou. Engraved by Zhang Yuan of Fengchuan.
