新昌翁君处士卒，既葬二十有一年，宣德乙卯(1435 年)，其子常熟县儒学训导玭以国子学录
朱廷望所述行状，征铭于予，辞不获，乃次序其行实以铭之。按处士讳贤三，字仲贤，姓翁
氏，行第三，世居青州，曾高以上宦游东浙，爱新昌善政乡黄檀之胜，因家焉。曾祖魁二，
祖叙五，父友义，世以隐德，推重于乡邦。处士在童卯时，性资聪敏，端绪外见，长益完固，
内严外和，德洽于宗族，誉闻于乡党。有不平者，咸来质正，处士为条析曲直，各得分愿解
去，举为耆老表正。一乡（向）与居官者言言忠爱，与子弟言言孝悌，与农贾言言勤俭，质
实惰游虚伪者益少。推其才之所及，以裕人悯穷恤饥，矜不成人，笃葬埋之礼，风俗归厚。
生于元辛卯(1351 年)六月七日子时，卒于大明甲午(1414 年)七月十五日戌时，享年六十有四。
以乙未(1415 年)九月十八日葬于翁家山之原。娶宁川塔山童氏，有淑德，克辅君子。子男六
人：茂、远、玭、正、原、彝。女一人，适本邑狄汝昇。孙男十二人：怀、慎、望、耕、禋、
逸、龄、禧、珍、纯、绥、黻。孙女三人。远、正先卒。玭登科第，司训常熟，言温气清，
学问优长。谚云：不识其父，观其子犹是。知国子学录之言为可信。呜呼！处士潜德湮髅，
不宣岁甲，再更其闻愈彰，是宜铭也。
铭曰：
裳锦褧裳，欲盖弥彰。僻芷幽兰，远而弥芳。
德洽宗族，誉流乡邦。久而不泯，迄今耿光。
错我铭辞，贲于别藏。山辉石润，历世悠长。
注：志石高 43.3 厘米，宽 43.3 厘米，厚 9 厘米，当地乌石。20 世纪 60 年代黄坛翁家山出
土，现由大市聚镇黄坛村翁姓村民收藏。

Twenty-one years after Recluse Weng's burial, his son Pi – now Instructor of Changshu County – begged me for this epitaph. Weng Xiansan (courtesy name Zhongxian) descended from Qingzhou settlers drawn to Xinchang's landscapes. Three generations before him were locally revered for virtue.
Prudent in youth and harmoniously rigorous in maturity, he mediated disputes with impartial wisdom. To officials he preached loyalty; to youth, filial piety; to farmers, diligence – eradicating hypocrisy from community life. His charity fed the hungry, buried the destitute, and upheld funeral rites.
