赐进士及第翰林院国史编修文林郎眷生潘晟篆
工科都给事中俞君宠之，以嘉靖己亥(1539 年)正月十九日卒， 卜吉未得，迺今癸卯(1543
年)十二月初三日协卜就寇。孤子则存走请志诸寇，告曰： “我父辱公教爱，有负
430长者，使或鄙孤之孱弱，幸也！若谓我父靳一言，孤之罪益重，奚這邪？”言讫，不胜哀泣。
于乎！则存之志可矜也。予乃揖则存而与言之： “汝父生汝，知有子脱襁褓矣，然不能鞠
育于后，汝之产业，乃祖乃父所植也。汝父没，不能必汝之成立。汝今既冠既婚，能谦能俭。
谦不傲物，俭不失礼，确乎能立，汝父亦无憾也。己吾安得不为汝志之？”则存又哀泣稽颡
者再。于乎！俞自青州庄府君迁新昌，厥后族大，分东西宅，宠之乃西宅支派。曾祖用直生
叔安，叔安生振才、振忠四人。宠之，振忠长子也。用直以上媵国，时人难悉颠末，吾今按
状，以可知者书之。宠之讳朝妥，别号未轩，逾弱冠，锐志读书。正德己卯(1519 年)领乡荐，
嘉靖癸未(1523 年)登进士。才识明敏，擢吉安府推官。吉安俗惯讼，尝设二员以备详诫，宠
之剖决，毫发不留情。太夫人一日扣曰：“刑果谁主邪？”答曰：“刑狱无主，□□是主。”
太夫人曰： “吾不能效郑善果母，汝可负张释之之无冤邪？”宠之跪谢曰： “谨奉教。”
比吉安□，太夫人忧。服阕，改推广信府听断，犹夫吉安也。当道由是交荐，而声名籍籍。
是时，科道阙员，钦择外除政绩优异者，补给事中，故宠之以广信推官除户科。未几，差宣
府及各边阅军事。毕，又赴淮府，册封皆不辱命。转吏科左给事，寻推工科都给事中，掌科
事。凡疏章奏议，有关利害得失者，虽屡言不为渎，不当言而不言，亦未为默。嘉靖丁酉(1537
年)，病脾得请归调治。越二年，遂不起，人咸惜其未尽厥施尔。宠之平居极孝敬，行事慷
慨，不龌龊，不诡随。国朝来，俞氏科第不绝，宠之伯父名振才者，先任湖广宪副，以直节
显。若方伯，若少司马、少司空，若尚宝，若侍御、郎中，又族之先达。宠之思欲追配前闻，
举动必仗义。其修辑祠堂，助赡祭田，开谕司府，捍筑长堤，使邑无水患，人或不肯当任，
而宠之独不辞。虽公私匮力，未免□异事，邑人安而称便者啧啧。此君子所以乐成人之美，
不恤其他也。昔大司马何五山元老，以新昌邑小事烦，奏豁库役粮头之累，福利甚博。使宠
之不死，志显亦无难，天盖不寿其命也。予栋外父素庵讳绫者，直隶徐州同知，于宠之为祖
辈，予窃不敢以尊行居，情切而意真，不吝辞之繁也，是岂诬之哉。振忠别号卧白山人，先
为嵊之阴阳训术，以宠之贵，赠文林郎。母吕氏，赠孺人。宠之弟讳朝孚，病死。宠之恤其
孤，无间己出，人又称其友爱之笃。配吕氏，赠孺人，早丧无出，继张氏，嵊之望族。一女
适吕道生，则存乃侧出。宠之生于弘治戊申(1488 年)九月二十五日，享年五十二，惜哉！卜
葬之原，本邑二十二都名兰演乡。
铭曰：
新昌作邑，割剡台分；溪萦山抱，毓秀成文；
皇明开天，俞吕振扬；冠裳姻娅，弥久弥昌；
奇才宝器，造物者勒；虽售弗售，重为人惜；
宠之之材，其竟售邪，其售而未尽邪！

道兰沿村茶山。
Yu Chong (1488-1539), courtesy name Chaotuo, alias Weixuan, descended from the western branch of Xinchang's Yu clan. His father Yu Zhenzhong (alias Wo Bai Shanren), formerly Instructor of Geomancy in Sheng County, received posthumous title Cultivated Scholar for his son's honor; mother Lady Lü was posthumously honored as Matron.
Passing provincial exams in 1519 and metropolitan exams in 1523, he began as judicial inspector of Ji'an Prefecture. When litigious locals overwhelmed courts (requiring dual inspectors), his razor-sharp judgments cut through deceit. His mother challenged him: "Can you bear Zhang Shizhi's burden of zero injustice?" He knelt replying: "I receive your instruction." After mourning her death, he transferred to Guangxin Prefecture, earning equal renown. Selected for censorial vacancy due to exceptional governance, he rose to Supervising Secretary of Revenue.
Commissioned to inspect frontier garrisons at Xuanfu and oversee investiture at Huai Princely Manor, he fulfilled both flawlessly. As Senior Supervising Secretary of Works, he memorialized on critical issues – persistent on essentials, silent on trivialities. Spleen illness forced retirement in 1537; he died two years later at fifty-two.
Chong revered ancestors like uncle Yu Zhencai (famed incorruptible Surveillance Vice Commissioner). He restored ancestral halls, donated ritual lands, and persuaded officials to build flood-control dikes – earning public praise. Locals lamented his premature death, recalling Grand Secretary He Jian's tax reforms for their county.
First wife Lady Lü (Matron) died childless; second wife Lady Zhang came from Sheng nobility. His daughter married Lü Daosheng; son Ze Cun (by concubine) matured into humble frugality. Chong raised his deceased brother's orphans as his own – a model of kinship devotion.
Buried at Lanyan Township on January 7, 1544.
Epitaph Verse
Xinchang – land cleft from Shanzhou and Taizhou –
Nurtured brilliance through winding streams and hills.
Under Ming's heaven, Yus and Lüs arose:
Officials and kin, ever-prospering.
Rare talent carved by Heaven's hand –
Fulfilled yet unfulfilled we stand.
Was Chong's promise fully spent?
Or half-spent when his life was rent?
Note: The stone tablet measures 68 cm in height and 57 cm in width, and is made of bluestone from Xikeng, Jingling Town. It was excavated in the 1960s from what is now Yulin Street in Xinchang County Tea mountain along Daolan Village.
