先君讳咨禹，字德懋，俞姓，越之新昌人。曾祖讳合义。祖讳聪，迪功郎。父讳俣，妣孙氏，□义郎玠女。先君生于淳熙戊戌(1178年)五月八日，卒于嘉熙己亥(1239年)十一月十七日。自幼歧嶷，早失所恃，一意当家抚养群弟，无间言。既留意古学，筑室石□为怡老计。以性直多忤，扁所居曰“惩室”以自警，其修省不倦如此。先君大概以孝友为立身之本，以诗礼为应世之用，他其可略也。夫人单氏，庆元奉化人，□先君同岁正月五日生，卒于宝祐乙卯(1255年)三月九日，清修懿行之为先君妃。子：秀颖、秀发。孙：桂孙、还淳。曾孙男：和、尚、道、祐；女：大娘。始，先君之死也，拘于阴阳，定兆未窆，至甲寅(1254年)冬，始营石舟之原，工未毕而母氏去矣。呜呼哀哉！秀颖等忍死以是年十一月庚申合藏，乞铭未（缺字）书岁月典与践□□□□□□□迪功郎（缺字）

Epitaph of Yu Ziyu (1178–1239)

My father, native of Xinchang County, descended from Yu Heyi (great-grandfather), Yu Cong (grandfather, Gentleman for Meritorious Achievement), and Yu Yu (father). His mother was daughter of Sun Jie, Military Officer (character missing). He was born on the 8th day of the 5th lunar month, 1178 and died on the 17th day of the 11th lunar month, 1239.

Orphaned young yet precociously wise, he single-handedly raised his younger brothers without grievance. He was keen on classical studies and in later years, he retired to a stone cottage at Shi (character missing). A candidly honest man who often offended, he called his dwelling "Chamber of Self-Admonition",-- such washe who ceaselessly cultivated virtue. His core tenets were simple: filial piety and friendship as life's foundation, poetry and rites as worldly compass.

His wife Lady Shan (1178–1255) of Fenghua matched him in virtue. She was born in the same year as her husband on the 5th day of the 1st lunar month and died on the 9th day of the 3rd lunar month of 1255. Her quiet dignity made her his true companion.

Great-granddaughter: Da Niang.

Geomancy delayed his interment for fifteen years. Tomb construction finally began on Shizhou Plain in the winter of 1254, but ere its completion Lady Shan passed away. What grief! Their sons buried them together on the gengshen day, 11th month, 1255, and asked for an epitaph (characters missing) recorded the dates (characters missing)
