Yuxuan named Yingyan, courtesy name Benming, alias Yuxuan. Since Eastern Jin, the Liang lineage had Wan (posthumous name Qianjiang) of Xunzhou, courtesy name Zhaomin, who served as Commander-in-Chief of All Military Affairs, dispatched as envoy to inspect Liangzhe. Seeing the sublime Linghe Mountain in Shàn, he settled there. By the fifth generation, Shanbao relocated to Chalin; the thirteenth generation Youlin moved to Shanbei, establishing the Liang as prominent lineage in Xinchang. By Yuxuan’s grandfather Yi, the family prospered. Yi had two sons: eldest Chong, second Chen. Chong (courtesy name Sizhi) passed provincial examination in Hongzhi reign, jiyou year (1489); Chen (courtesy name Zhongzhi) excelled in estate management, making Liang the wealthiest [erased]. He fathered four sons: Yuxuan (eldest), Yingkui, Yingguang, Yingkang. Yuxuan possessed majestic stature and solemn speech, dutiful and charitable – once donating grain [text lost] – earning communal respect and scholarly friendships. He declared: “I inherit modest heritage; eschew arrogance, yet regret failing in ritual propriety!” Named his first son [name lost], courtesy name Keyan. Second son Xueli, courtesy name Keli. After turning forty, delegated estate duties to Keyan while daily instructing Keli in classics. Built a study at the hill behind residence, inscribed “Yuxuan” (Abundance Hall), signifying accumulating virtue for posterity. Furnished with lute and books, he studied and recited therein. Addicted to wine, he often drank exuberantly with loud chanting, [text lost] causing fatal illness. Keyan and Keli were nephews of my elder brother Liang [text lost], Magistrate of Hepu, thus I knew Yuxuan’s deeds authentically. [text lost] Two legitimate sons: Xue [name lost]; one son by concubine: Xuemeng. Died at yin hour (3-5 am), 3rd day, 4th month, Jiajing 28 (1549), born at xu hour (7-9 pm), 3rd day, 7th month, Hongzhi 11 (1498). Buried at Gaopu Hill, Tongxi, 24th District. His new tomb stands fresh before grasses sprout. I weep while inscribing.
