The Eminent Officials and Local Worthies Shrine within the Confucian Temple continues ancient sacrificial traditions, vital for honoring virtue and moral education. It enshrines: non-native officials who governed beneficially; natives serving elsewhere with notable virtue; and virtuous scholars inspiring posterity. This transcends mere veneration – it establishes eternal [text lost] exemplars transforming the corruptible. Since Xinchang's establishment in 2nd Year of Kaiping, Liang dynasty (908 AD), 27 eminent officials and 46 local worthies have been enshrined. Notable magistrates: Lin Gong of Sanlin (built schools/dikes/wells/irrigation channels); Ding Gong of Jinling (famine relief); Wang Gong of Jinhua (education reform); Zhang Gong of Chengdu (integrity). Yuan dynasty: Uighur Huolusimi Gong, Li Gong of Ganyang. Ming: Zhou Gong of Huai'an, Jia Gong of Tai'an, Tong Gong of Shanyang, Cao Gong of Fuliang, Song Gong of Huating, Wan Gong of Wujin, Lin Gong of Putian, Li Gong of Jinjiang, Zhu Gong of Jinxian. Yuan Patrol Commissioner: Chen Gong of Henan. Ming Registrar: Zeng Gong of Luling. Ming Instructor: Lü Gong, native. Qing enshrines only Magistrates Liu and Zhang, plus seven Provincial Administrators. All protected people or promoted virtue – legacies unforgotten. Local worthies include: Neo-Confucian scholars Huang Xuanxian, Shi Kezhai, Shi Chengzhai, Yu Moweng, Lü Xinqing; virtuous figures Shi Guozuo, Wang Qingxiang, Shi Daozuo, Wang Zhongqian, Shi Tianmin, Liang Shuheng, Yang Gonghui, Lü Haolong, Ding Darong, He Wushan, Yu Zhengong, Lü Piwen, Yu Rucheng, Pan Shuilian, Lü Mengxuan; loyal martyrs Dong Boqiang, Wu Shuda, Chen Siqi, Dong Guandao, Yu Jiemin; administrators Zhen Kexiu, Yu Zhongying, Lü Zhenwu; filial exemplars Shi Deyuan, Hu Weifu, Lü Xiaoqi, Zhang Ziyong, Lü Beishan, Chen Quegao; recluse Lü Zongxue; incorruptibles Qiu Shanggui, Liu Shiyong, Yu Zhongcai; educator Pan Yixun; literati Xu Dahua, Xu Guangyuan, Lü Zhongsui; philanthropists Shi Jiping, Chen Huiqing, Chen Zhenheng, Yu Yongzhi – all timeless paragons. In 7th month, bingwu year (1786), upon assuming office, I found the shrine dilapidated: roofs leaking, stelae damaged. Gold inscriptions on vermilion ground misspelled Kezhai's taboo name as "Shu" – grave disrespect. Descendants enthusiastically funded restoration. Rebuilt to standard dimensions with black ink on red ground, ensuring ritual propriety. Previously shared one hall; Yongzheng 4 (1726) Magistrate Li Zhiguo funded separate three-bay halls. Now six bays with enclosing walls. Commenced 10th month, dingwei year (1787); completed 7th month, wushen year (1788). Managed by Lü Zhenxu et al., with Lü Zhouxu and Wan Xian most diligent.
