海客谈瀛洲,烟涛微茫信难求;

Seafarers speak of Yingzhou isle, lost in misty waves so vain;
Yue folk tell of Tianmu peaks, glimpsed through clouds' rainbow chain.
Tianmu thrusts skyward, dwarfing Five Peaks, dimming Chicheng's height;
Tiantai's forty-eight thousand zhang, tilts southeast in its sight.
Dreaming of Wu-Yue, I flew overnight past Moonlit Lake;
Lakeside moon cast my shadow, to Shan Stream my path did make.
Xie Lingyun's lodge still remains, clear apes wail o'er emerald tide;
In his wooden hiking clogs, up cloud-ladder stairs I stride.
At cliff's edge saw sea sun rise, heard heavenly cocks crow on high;
Through countless winding crags, flowers stunned me as dusk drew nigh.
Bears roared, dragons chanted, making rocks and springs resound,
Forests shuddered in dread, peaks trembled all around.
Clouds hung dark with coming rain, mist rose from ripples pale;
Crackling thunders rent the hills, shattered ridge and vale.
Stone gates of grotto-heaven burst open with a crash,
Revealing azure vaults unfathomed in the flash,
Where sun and moon gilded golden towers bright.
With rainbows for robes and winds as steeds, cloud-immortals alight;
Tigers strum zithers, phoenix-drawn chariots wheel,
Celestial hosts stand dense as hemp-fields reveal.
Sudden terror seized my soul, woke with startled sigh;
Only pillow and mat remained, all visions fled the eye.
Life's joys are but such dreams, all things flow east like streams.
Farewell! When shall I return? My white stag roams blue cliffs, it seems –
Ride him to famous mountains when I will!
Shall I bow and scrape before the mighty, against my carefree soul's thrill?
